Qualification Profile

The interdisciplinary Master´s Program Materials Science and Engineering is particularly characterized by a deepening of basic engineering disciplines, which is a prerequisite for a professional activity in engineering research. The focus is on multiscale materials sciences, materials in engineering applications, mathematical modeling and quantification of uncertainties as well as material characterization, testing and monitoring. In addition to the possible focus in Uncertainty Quantification and Mathematical Modeling, probabilistic aspects and methods with regard to an ability to predict technical systems are also imparted through the quantification of uncertainties, risks and probabilities of rare events. The program provides graduates with the opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary scientific work at research facilities and universities and qualifies them in particular for research and development in interdisciplinary branches of industry such as aerospace, energy science, medical engineering and other industries where interdisciplinarity and risk as well as uncertainty-consciousness are elementary.
